How Atlas Boosts Subscribers by 50% and Cuts Costs by 85% After Migrating to Quintype

We decided to switch to Quintype because it empowers us to save money and make more money while saving time to have more time. If I had a large news company asking my opinion or if I was hired as the COO with some legacy media, one of the first things I would do is switch to their headless CMS. I can save you two years and a lot of money and time; just stick with Quintype. They are going to be the people who can deliver what you need without you spending a lot of money.

About Atlas

Atlas is the definitive source for intelligence-driven journalism, trusted by the global intelligence community for its precision and reliability. Based in Dallas, Texas, and helmed by CEO Stephen Nix, they are committed to delivering unvarnished, unbiased, and unfiltered reporting that brings clarity to the complexities of today's world.

Atlas' mission is to bridge the gap between raw intelligence and informed understanding, providing insights that empower decision-makers and engage readers with depth and accuracy. Every story at Atlas is a testament to its dedication to truth, transparency, and trust.

How did Atlas Transform Adversity into Achievement with Quintype?

After assessing its technical stack, Atlas identified challenges with technical debt and sluggish performance, prompting a comprehensive overhaul of its entire tech stack. The Atlas team incurred considerable expenses managing separate tech stacks from various providers for different tasks. Despite this investment, the team was dissatisfied with the outcomes and felt the spending did not deliver the desired value.

When the Atlas team explored Quintype, they found its headless CMS to be the main pull factor. Also, having a centralized tech stack through a single company proved highly beneficial for them.

If they had questions about subscription, readership, or account management, a single team at Quintype knew their whole business comprehensively. It could respond quickly, eliminating the need to coordinate with multiple providers for different platforms. Furthermore, it saves Atlas a lot of money and time.

Before adopting Quintype, subscription management, push notifications, readership data, and CSS were all handled separately on the Atlas website. This fragmented approach required the team to create standalone pop-ups and invest significant time and effort in developing and implementing them for each product. The exact process had to be repeated for the mobile application, making it overly tedious and time-consuming.

The Quintype team, advanced technology stack, support system, and product features exceeded the expectations of the Atlas team. The team hadn't anticipated such advanced built-in tools, which quickly became their favorite platform aspect. These integrated features, enhancing the system's overall efficiency, were key reasons Atlas chose Quintype over other options.

Nix expressed his happiness, satisfaction, and strong confidence, stating,

Quintype tech saves 100 hours every month. Switching to Quintype is an eye-opener on how important speed, efficiency, and simplicity are. Our vision is to develop technology and marketing strategies in tandem, creating an integration where technology supports marketing to simplify achieving our brand objectives. We have seen how effortlessly the Quintype team handles new demands and projects in a short period, assuring us to aim higher."

Atlas achieved remarkable efficiency with Quintype, saving 85% of the time previously spent on processes and realizing an equally impressive 85% reduction in costs associated with their tech stack. Let us uncover their market analysis and understand major reasons why Atlas decided to go with Quintype over all the other contenders.

Why did Atlas Choose Quintype Over WordPress for its Tech Transformation?

Atlas operated on WordPress, layering four to five additional technologies, which resulted in constant challenges and relentless headaches at every turn. WordPress shortcomings dealt a double blow to Atlas's expansion and routine tasks.

The Atlas team sought a fast, intuitive, and easy CMS to train someone to publish content within minutes. In their research, Quintype's publishing platform proved to be the perfect fit.

The platform's intuitive design and slight learning curve make training existing staff or onboarding new team members quick and efficient. Additionally, integrating third-party providers is hassle-free with Quintype's technology.

Coming to the technicalities of content production, Atlas doesn't have a robust SEO strategy and struggles to incorporate SEO practices into its articles. The primary challenge was the limitations of their CMS system, combined with the high volume of content production, making it impractical to check and align with SEO guidelines manually.

Quintype CMS has built-in SEO tools that help publishers rank higher on search engines. The team sought a solution to improve their content's search rankings and ensure it appeared at the top of search results. Quintype CMS also provides:

  • Audience analytics.
  • Offering insights into article and author performance.
  • Auto-publishing content on social media.
  • AI tools for generating meta titles, meta descriptions, and social media descriptions.
  • Option to set editorial standards such as minimum and maximum headline character limits.
  • The simple user interface, cardified editor, collections of stories, and better workflow management.

Why did Atlas Choose Quintype Over Arc XP?

Atlas evaluated numerous CMS platforms, including Arc XP, but discovered it demanded a specialized technical team for management and maintenance. Additionally, Arc XPs cost exceeded Atlas’s financial capacity. In contrast, Quintype’s platform offered seamless content publishing, eliminating the need for technical expertise while aligning perfectly with their budget constraints.

Why did Atlas Replace Piano with Quintype's Subscription Management Solution?

Revenue generation and user experience are the cornerstones of success for any news organization. With the WordPress tech stack, they had to integrate a third-party tool for subscription management. So, Atlas was using Piano for subscription management. Piano proved prohibitively expensive and frustratingly slow for their needs.

Atlas has cultivated a highly dedicated and unique readership base centered around its content. Nevertheless, under the WordPress-Piano tech stack, the brand observed significant challenges with basic customer management functionalities, such as single sign-on and password resets, leading to frequent user complaints and troubles.

The paywall management system posed substantial challenges due to improperly written HTML code, making it hard for Atlas to convert readers into subscribers. This led to a surge in support tickets to address recurring issues.

The customer conversion process was clunky, involving three to four steps, most of which were manual and highly complicated. This inefficiency prompted them to move away from Piano for a more streamlined and user-friendly solution and decided to switch to Quintype’s subscription and paywall management solution- Accesstype.

Quintype delivers an out-of-the-box solution for simplifying customer conversion processes. From registration to subscription, the platform offers smooth integrations for single sign-on. Its powerful Webhooks enable automated email notifications to readers when they exhaust their free article limit. These finely tuned features have contributed significantly to a substantial increase in subscribers, marking one of the brand’s most notable achievements.

The Atlas team found Quintype’s paywall management system exceptionally smooth and error-free. This led to a significant reduction in support tickets from readers regarding paywall-related issues. With fewer obstacles, the team successfully converted many readers into subscribers. After shifting to Quintype, the following changes happened to their subscription user journey and subscriber acquisition.

  • Atlas has collected email data from customers engaging with the content, as Quintype’s data collection processes are straightforward and highly efficient.
  • Unlike previous systems' cumbersome four—or five-step process, Quintype's streamlined approach has made user transition far more efficient.
  • Atlas refined its advertisement strategy thanks to the simplified process of converting readers into subscribers.
  • Atlas significantly improved its customer management experience, ensuring users no longer faced issues with password resets or login processes—problems that had previously led to a high volume of customer support tickets.
  • Atlas's subscriber base increased by an impressive 50% within just one month of embracing Quintype. This achievement was attributed to the improved website design, refreshed branding, and a subscription process that outperformed previous years and resonated strongly with the audience.

With all the above achievements, the Atlas team saved considerable time by resolving these issues and unnecessary operational tasks. This freed them to focus on what truly matters: delivering high-quality content to their dedicated and unique readership base.

According to Nix, The organization has achieved remarkable growth in its subscriber base due to the highly streamlined process guiding users from their first visit to becoming registered users and, ultimately, subscribers.

‘Quintype demonstrated a thorough understanding of our challenges, problems, and needs, providing invaluable support in resolving issues. We didn’t have to alter our marketing strategy, yet our ultimate goal of growing our subscriber base was achieved quickly after onboarding Quintype. Their platform allowed us to maintain our existing approach. Still, with immensely greater effectiveness compared to previous systems.' - Nix expressed immense satisfaction, effusively praising the remarkable outcomes and transformative impact of the results.

Looking ahead, Atlas confidently anticipates a 5X increase in subscriber numbers over the next six months or one year. This optimism stems from tangible results and the simplicity, efficiency, and user-friendly nature of Quintype's technology, which has instilled confidence and high expectations for sustained growth.

'I look forward to continuing our partnership with Quintype in the same collaborative and effective manner. Together, we will continue to innovate while maintaining simplicity and focus, ultimately reaching our ambitious goal of growing our subscriber base by 5X by 2025.' Nix concluded his words with utmost satisfaction in his new investment.

The transition to Quintype was swift and seamless, setting the stage for remarkable improvements in efficiency and performance. Here's a closer look at the milestones and achievements Atlas experienced during and after its migration from WordPress to Quintype.

Go Live Within 45 Days

Atlas needed to switch immediately since most of their contracts were due in 50 days from the day they started talking to Quintype. So, Atlas' migration to the Quintype product was faster than usual; they completed the whole migration process to the Quintype platform within one and a half months.

Atlas COO Nix remembered some of his old migrations, such as migration to Piano and other systems, which took them four to five months. At the same time, Quintype completed the entire migration process quickly. So, it was bliss that they could complete the migration immediately and return the marketing processing without delay because everything worked fine after shifting to Quintype.

The migration to Quintype proved highly successful, meeting all the requirements on their checklist. Atlas's feedback highlighted the outstanding capability and supportive approach of the Quintype team. One of the standout aspects they highlighted was the continued reliability of the support system even after migration.

The transition to Quintype was swift and seamless, setting the stage for remarkable improvements in efficiency and performance.

Round-the-clock Support

According to Nix, COO of Atlas, the team appreciated the ability to ask questions at any time through Slack channels and receive prompt assistance. Quintype's support team addressed queries and resolved issues quickly, often through direct calls, ensuring that operations remained uninterrupted.

This level of responsiveness and efficiency Quintype offered were deemed invaluable for the brand, particularly during the transition to a new technology provider. The ability to maintain productivity without delays solidified Quintype's reputation as a trusted and dependable partner.

Changing the website layout becomes a breeze with the no-code page builder tool.

Atlas struggled with a front-end page builder that was exceedingly slow, difficult to use, and hindered the development of new features. A key issue was the requirement to design elements separately for desktop, mobile, and tablet views, making the process quite time-consuming. Even constructing something as simple as a banner would take hours, reflecting the system's inefficiency.

In Nix's opinion, Quintype's page builder is user-friendly. Changing the front-end story or the entire website's appearance is now just a matter of three or four clicks. Uploading a new story to the front page or managing existing stories is effortless and takes minimal time. Creating, updating, or publishing breaking news and live blogs has become seamless, making it a ground-breaker for our workflow. Thanks to the intuitive blocks and templates available in Quintype’s page builder, we can now do this easily.

Atlas can now effectively guide readers to specific sections of the website, and this functionality is fully mirrored on the mobile application. This is a noteworthy transformation that the Atlas team never anticipated to be so easy.

No-code mobile apps are seamlessly integrated with the website CMS.

Atlas used separate CMS platforms for its mobile application and website, causing the mobile application to function as an isolated entity rather than being seamlessly integrated with the CMS. This disconnect added extra steps to various processes, such as managing paywall-related pop-ups, further complicating their workflow.

A standout aspect of the Quintype mobile application is its seamless integration with the website and CMS, providing a unified and efficient ecosystem for Atlas.  The mobile application requires no extra effort—whatever is updated on the CMS or front end is automatically reflected in the same format on the app.

Atlas found everything is effectively integrated and perfectly aligned with the CMS system. As a result, it functions as an interconnected component rather than a standalone entity, ensuring smooth coordination with all other systems of Atlas.

Additionally, Quintype's mobile application incorporated several custom features requested by the Atlas team; after receiving a detailed list of requirements from Atlas, the Quintype team successfully implemented and executed these features within an impressive 60-day launch timeline.
